    Jorge Sosa, a contemporary classical music composer, currently makes his home in Kansas City, Missouri. His compositions, which are influenced by popular and traditional music from Latin America, have been performed in venues in Europe, the United States, and Mexico. Jorge received his Masters of Music in Composition from Mannes College of Music, and is studying for his Doctorate of Music at the prestigious conservatory at the University of Missouri, Kansas City.

    Recent competition and performance news:

     

    • Jorge's solo saxophone piece, "Bounce", was performed by Javier Oviedo at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, New York, in 2007.

     

     

    • The Minnesota Orchestra Composers Institute awarded Jorge's orchestral piece, "Fronteras" ("Borders") honorable mention in their recent world-wide composers competition.

     

    • Jorge's orchestral work, "Metaforas sobre la Relatividad", was featured twice:  the Symphony Orchestra of the Instituto Politecnico Nacional in Mexico City premiered the piece in December, 2005, and the UMKC Symphony Orchestra selected it for a reading in March, 2006.

     

    • His trio, "Oak, Ivory, and Silver", was one of the winning pieces of UMKC's Chamber Music Composition Competition in February, 2006, and was premiered the same month by members of the University's contemporary music ensemble, Musica Nova.

     

    • Jorge's "Capricio for Solo Violin" was selected by the Washington Composer's Forum and performed in Seattle in their "Transport Concert Series" by acclaimed violinist Karen Bentley Pollick in February, 2006.

     

    • Jorge's "Funeral March" was performed in Philadelphia in March, 2006 by the Case Saxophone Quartet.
